The Ministry of Welfare's proposal for treating vulnerable asylum seekers (2017)

In 2014, the Israeli State Comptroller released the "Foreigners Not Subject to Deportation" report which described and criticized the failure of the State of Israel to treat the asylum seeking communities, and particularly the vulnerable groups among them. These groups include the survivors of the torture camps in Sinai, women who endured gender-based violence, the chronically ill, people with physical and mental disabilities, and the homeless. Since then, ASSAF has worked extensively to demand that social services and solutions be provided to the aforementioned groups by the relevant authorities.

Three years following the State Comptroller’s report, the Ministry of Welfare has issued a policy proposal intended to address the failures portrayed in the report. The proposal document was published as part of the Knesset discussion of the Audit Committee on March 20, 2017. The policy has not yet been implemented.
