Humanitarian Aid

More than 15 years of government neglect, exclusion and denial of rights have led the asylum-seekers community in Israel to severe economic hardship, poverty and vulnerability – all of which have been exacerbated by the Covid-19 crisis. Asylum seekers do not have access to welfare services in Israel, and they are not entitled to assistance, support or benefits. This harmful government policy leaves the most vulnerable groups among asylum seekers without any proper psychosocial support.

At ASSAF, we provide the most vulnerable asylum seekers with dry food, baby equipment and baby formula, and in extreme emergencies, even financial assistance. In the vast majority of cases, the assistance we are able to provide is a temporary and limited solution – the only way to ensure the well-being of asylum seekers is to make the social safety net, social services and funds available to them.

Financial Aid and Food Packages

Each month we support about 20 asylum seekers who are unable to support themselves, whether due to physical disability or to unique acute crises. Financial assistance is usually limited to a period of several months, and is intended to support asylum seekers who receive it until they are able to independently support themselves. Throughout this period, we accompany the recipients of assistance in the process of rehabilitation and recovery, and work with them to find long-term solutions that will enable and ensure their independence.

In addition, once a month we receive a supply of dry food from the “Latet” organization and other private donations, which we distribute to families and individuals who experience a severe economic crisis.
