Israel quietly sends migrants to Sudan

 Israel has quietly repatriated hundreds of Sudanese migrants in recent months, drawing accusations from rights groups that it has coerced the Africans into potentially life-threatening situations and possibly violated international norms for treating refugees.

Deportation and Voluntary Departure

The Israeli Government's policy in recent years is to apply pressure on asylum seekers in order to make them leave the country. It has been doing so by threatening them with incarceration, and expropriating a significant portion of their salaries. In addition, the state has acted in various ways to forcibly deport asylum seekers.

Court prohibits detention of Sudanese refugees days before mass arrests begin

The court’s move comes in response to an October 3 petition, filed by the Clinic for Migrants’ Rights at the Academic Center of Law and Business, the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), the Hotline for Migrant Workers, ASSAF Aid Organization for Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Israel, the African Refugee Development Center (ADRC), and Kav La’Oved, as well six African asylum seekers.
