Police have arrested an Israeli teenager on suspicion that he was involved in a brutal attack last week that killed a Sudanese refugee.

The Sudanese man, believed to be about 40 years old, was found eight days ago with wounds all over his body, apparently after being beaten with a sharp object, Israeli news site Walla reported Sunday.

He was taken to Petah Tikva’s Beilinson hospital where he was declared clinically dead, and was removed from life support on Sunday after police found his brother, who gave his consent.

The suspect, a 16-year-old, was arrested shortly after the attack, Walla said. A court on Sunday extended his remand.

Police are still looking for several other youths, believed to have participated in the attack. Police have not yet said what the alleged motive was for the assault.

The teen’s lawyer, Avi Cohen, told Walla that “the minor is cooperating with investigators and has given his account of the events that led to the death.
