Some 100 social activists rallied Saturday near the Holot detention facility in the Negev. Activists met with asylum seekers from Eritrea and Sudan who are held at the facility, brought them food, supplies, and clothes

"Last week, a medical delegation visited them, taking notes of their problems and medical needs," said Alma Yitzhaki, a Tel Aviv activist.

"Today we are here to be with them, to see if there's anything new and bring them supplies, such as food, blankets, and drugs. Of course we also intend to be with them and try to give them strength," the activist added.

"This gives me great joy and is a complete surprise," said Aphton Gavrel, a detainee at the Holot detention facility who saw his wife and daughter for the first time in over a year on Saturday, when the two arrived at the facility. "I am very happy to see them here."

After meeting with Holot detainees, activists walked to the nearby Saharonim facility, where many "have gone on hunger strike, and we want to express our protest against their detention," Yitzhaki noted.,7340,L-4478118,00.html
