The Human Rights Council established the Commission through resolution 26/24 of of 27 June 2014 and extended its mandate for one year to June 2016. On 8 June 2016, the Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in Eritrea released its second report. On 21 June 2016, the Commission will present its second report to the Human Rights Council. In October 2016, it will present an oral update to the General Assembly.
